Re: Speed of Hupfeld Rolls
By Rob DeLand
I have really enjoyed this thread - thanks to all who contributed. Especially John Phillips' note about the box of musty rolls vs. the wife on the bed. There's another good thread: roll collecting and family life! I have almost bought my ticket for sleeping in the garage on several occasions.
I just checked some of my Hupfeld rolls - I have about 100 of them, almost all top-notch, heavy-duty hand-played classical stuff. I never noticed it before, but sure enough they ALL say Tempo 50, except for the latest ones on the red Animatic label which go so far as to say Tempo 50-60! This applies to the smallest and the largest rolls, the earliest and the latest ones I have, including one Triponola roll (tempo 50-60). I don't recall any of them sounding inordinately slow, but I do tend to automatically adjust tempi to my satisfaction and my just have overlooked the issue.
