Punch Formats
By Spencer Chase

I am in the preliminary stages of designing a roll scanning and punching system and am hoping to anticipate and avoid format compatibility problems. I would appreciate any information on punch step increments used to produce the old rolls. I plan to start with Duo-Art rolls duplication, but would like to expand to other formats if this is successful. I plan to punch the new rolls at the same step size as the originals to maximize speed and accuracy. The holes in the old paper are difficult to measure exactly. So far I have found that the step sizes are close to, but not exactly, fractional inches, 1/32" being the most common. Actual historical information about what the machines were made to punch would be the most useful.
