MM in New York State (fwd)
By Michael Walter
Dear Jody,
Another source of Automatic Music in New York State is the Carousel Museum in North Tonawanda, New York. It started out as the Herschell Spillman Carousel Factory many moons ago and went out of business in the 40s or 50s. About 5 - 6 years ago, some conservation-minded citizens decided to do something about the building before it went the way of the Wurlitzer Factory. They cleaned up the building, erected a carousel in the original carousel- testing area, set up displays, and opened the doors. They have an original Wurlitzer band organ (125?) providing music for the carousel. They have also obtained a perforator which was used in the manufacture of band organ rolls originally at Wurlitzer and then later at their company. The address is 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda 14120. Their phone number is 716-693-1885. I believe that they are open year round. Bob Conant may know more about the Band Organ than myself. Best Wishes.
