The Chase-Hackley Player
By John A. Tuttle
Hi All,
John Poling sent me a couple more letters in response to the information I sent about his Chase player.
After some careful looking, he found writing on the plate which said "Manufactured by Chase - Hackley Piano Company Muskegon, Michigan". Also, the Serial No. is 93791. For those who look, Chase-Hackley numbers are not listed, but they refer to Chase Brothers. However, Chase Bros. numbers end in 1925 with 91000.
It's my belief that either Chase Bros. made more than their average 2000 units/year or actually continued making units into 1926.
BTW, we're still trying to identify the player mechanism. Since, according to the Player Piano catalog, Chase-Hackley used the Metalnola action by Otto Higel, it should be fairly easy to nail this one down.
Musically, John A. Tuttle
