MTP-1 MIDI Unit

To : Robbie Rhodes and all MMD readers.
Thanks for your interest in the MTP-1.
As the system stands, it has been designed to use a low cost micro- controller, which is run to its absolute capacity. There is no facility in the current system, therefore, for further expansion, so it can't support system exclusives at the moment. There are, however, routes available for expansion, namely to use a processor with a higher clock speed which has more time to process the extra information. It would also be possible to use a processor with more memory to support 'soft' mappings.
However, as my original article suggested, I am anticipating that this unit would be installed in an instrument where the mapping only has to be defined once. If for some reason, the specification of the instrument is changed, it would be possible, at moderate cost, to replace just the microcontroller and thus enable the use of a new mapping. This would be cheaper than buying a complete new unit.
Since this unit is in a very early stage of its life, any suggestions as to alternative facilities would be welcomed - it may turn out that there is more demand for re-programmable (more expensive) units than cheap one- time programmable ones.
As far as code release goes, I am reluctanct to make any action at this point, as there could be software revisions made as the demand for features becomes clear.
Regards,
John Wale.
