Re: Duo-Art Expression Coding
By Tom Dimock
In response to Robert Pintar's message yesterday about Duo-Art expression encoding:
What you describe is much closer to Themodist-Metrostyle coding than Duo-Art. The DuoArt divides the keyboard in half. There are theme and accompaniment level setting perforations, each of which is basically a 4 bit binary level. There are "snakebites" at bothe ends of the tracker, and they shift that side of the keyboard to the theme regulator momentarily. The snakebites are a momentary effect - it is possible to pull out a single note from a very fast run. The snakebites are very small holes, and they used two side by side to get enough area to work. Their hole is a thin horizintal slot.
To sum up, the entire keyboard normally runs off the accompaniment regulator. When a snakebite passes over the slot at either the bass or treble end, it shifts that side of the keyboard momentarily to the theme regulator.
