Personal Perforated Paper Manivelle
By Robert Linnstaedt
Dear Friends, A few years ago, I was intrigued by a most unusual musical box. It was beyond my means to purchase at the time, even though the price ($450) was stated to be "50% off"! I am currently looking for one of these, or something similar. Let me describe.
It was in case shaped as a street organ (but the tones were plucked), and small enough to hold in your hand. The unusual feature was that it used paper strips about 2.5" wide, which you could punch yourself as it had lines drawn along the length. I do not recall the number of notes. The paper strip was punched by (I believe) an ordinary paper punch for loose-leaf notebooks. You turned a crank on the side, so this might be more properly called a manivelle.
Has anyone seen this or a similar device?
Thanks ever so much!
