Player Inspection
By Jon Page

Player unit aside, first and formost is the piano itself. Have a piano technician advise you if the piano is worth restoring. Is it structurally sound: back, posts, bridges, dampers, pinbolck; all the things that make up a piano. The piano may require as much restoration as the player. Remember, a *player piano* is one mechanism operating another mechanism. No matter how much work you put into rebuilding the player unit. If the piano and piano action are not up to snuff it will not perform properly.

Many piano techs know very little or nothing about player units. Just as many player people are unfamiliar with piano technology. So one must be aware of and apply the two technologies.

Good Luck
