Future MMD Web Site
By Terry Smythe
Some weeks ago, there was mention of one day establishing a home page for MMD. I appreciate this is a substantial task and may be an oppportunity for some of us to lend a helping hand to our moderator, Jody.
I would like to put on the table for consideration the possibility of setting up a "bios" page within the home page, containing the biographical data, email address, home page address, and possibly even a picture of our members.
To gain an appreciation for what I have in mind, those interested are invited to visit a similar web site I maintain as moderator of another automated mailing list.

Click on "thumbnail bios" in para 1 of page 1 that comes up.
When I retired 2 years ago from GM of the Manitoba Taxicab Board, I retained my interest in trying to help this unique industry, and found an interesting way to do so by setting up an automated mailing list, and a web page as a resource site for significant documentation. It's the only site of its type known at the moment on the 'Net, serving this industry.
I keep the "bios" page real simple, with a minimum of HTML coding, to minimize maintenance effort. The pictures are in 2 forms - a tiny "thumbnail" picture which, when clicked, will bring in a full size picture for those inclined. Using a 28.8 modem, the "thumbnail" page currently takes about 1.5 minutes to load because it is unavoidably graphics intensive.
Those wishing to have their pictures included send me either a graphics image, or a real photo by snail mail. I scan it on a modest scanner I have, and return the photo. So far the maintenance load is tolerable, but then my group is just under 200 compared to MMD's 300+.
I would be prepared to undertake development and maintenance of such a page for MMD, if indeed that is even possible remotely.
Something to think about.
Regards,
Terry
