The Computer Assisted Music Perforating Machine described by Robert Hopp is almost identical to the machine I designed in 1979. The machine has been punching music for almost 17 years. One of the differences in my original design was the use of a proprietary music encoding scheme, since MIDI had not been invented when I started. The computer was a Cromemco Z80 but is now a 486.
All of my files have been converted to MIDI, but at times I still use the music editor that I wrote for the Z80 but have recompiled for the 486. The other difference, is that I use a pneumatic driven punch.

[ Editor's Note: [ [ I've been hoping that perforating machines which were not tied to a [ specific "holes-per-inch" format would show up. Now we know of two. [ [ At least one of our subscribers has expressed an interest in building [ such a machine. This should be good encouragement. [ [ Ed, would you mind writing more about your machine ? There are a number [ of people here with oddball roll formats that would like to make single [ copies of things. Do you do any "custom" perforating ? [ [ Robert Hopp: I look forward to hearing more about your system too. [ Do you do custom perforating ? Is you machine in Germany ? [ [ Do either of you plan on building, or building and selling more of [ these systems ? [ [ Jody
