I Vote "YES" for Appropriate Ads in the Digest
By Rick Cooley
Hi Folks,
I read, with interest, a recent note in the Digest that objected to appropriate "ads" . Most of us are aware that there are many part-time and full-time "dealers" who are members of the Digest. For each of them (us) to fill the Digest with the many items we have for sale I feel would be inappropr iate. However, I have not seen any "dealer" take advantage of the Digest in this way, so far. On the other hand, these same dealers and other members seem to have extra rolls for orchestrions, extra disks for music boxes, parts they no longer need or maybe they are like me. It seems I always need something. At this level, I have found the Digest to be an excellent means of sharing "where to find" information. .
I am very much in favor of continuing the present level of "ads" for finding items, buying and selling. Perhaps (for those that do not care for the ads), they could be placed at the end of the Digest with a heading of WANTED, FOR SALE, etc. so they could be skipped, if they are of no value to the reader. However, as an advanced restorer who has satisfactorily restored over 300 machines and music boxes of all kinds, I read and enjoyed every ad. It helps me "calibrate" the prices on our items, find stuff I need for restorations and share the "extra" items that need a good home.
Jody, I look forward to seeing at least a summary of the comments you receive on this subject...... Thanks for all your fine work on the Digest......... IT IS A GREAT SERVICE TO US ALL..... With best personal regards to all.
