Chordephon-60
By Gerard Arkenbout

Hi all of the MBSI,

In a former request for a colleague of mine I asked experiences on gathering, building or renovating a CHORDEPHON-60 music-box cq zither. My colleague has constructed a complete new instrument according this CHORDEPHON-60. The wooden case, the frame with brass playing part touching the sixty strings, the drive-motor for the metal-disc and all the other parts he has constructed them. Even the metal-discs (or disques ?) are copied or renovated by his own. In the former request I was also asking how to tune this instrument. On the tuning key (peg) for each string a character for the tone was printed. On a smaller Music box of this type in his possession the tuning for the strings is marked in this way. However the tuning is no more the problem. Inspecting securely existing metal music-discs for the CHORDEPHON-60 he found the tone-type for each of the sixty strings ( A real music-lover or not !?). The delivering and ordering for the strings of this new instrument is done at a German piano-builder. However this delevering is dependent on the number of orders he will receive.

The way how he copies existing metal-discs on DIAZO light sensitive paper, I also wrote to you.

For his new instrument he want to have about thirty music-titles. A number of titles are reconstructed or on the original disc in his possession. The next titles he can exchange now for other titles [may be in the DIAZO way, only the paper with the image of the disc is sufficient] are:

   Koenig Karl March No 13
Alte Kameraden
Kaiser Friedrich March
O Isabella Sie last mich nicht
Vogel flieg in Die Welt hinaus
Besenbinder March No 628
Petrus Marchlied
Es war in Schoeneberg
Untern Linden No 631
Lachende Liebe aus: .......

P.S. In the past he renovated a Chordephon-44 strings music-box zither with a very good result. He also plans to construct another CHORDEPHON-60 music-box to connect them by a rod, to play the CHORDEPHON'S synchronously (This will give a great sound !!)
