The BIG Digest 96.08.16
By Robbie Rhodes
Jody and I didn't realize how huge Digest 96.08.16 last night was: 36 kilobytes! The biggest ever, I think. When I received it, the Eudora Pro email program had created two sections (it actually left foxtail as one big Digest.)
Congratulations, Jody! Like the Sunday edition of the newspaper, the Digest is so big it arrives in sections!!!
But! ... Did anyone experience any problems receiving this big issue? Let Jody know <rollreq@foxtail.com> and we will see what can be done.
("Morning" and "Evening" editions? Hmmm? "Classified Section?" :-)
A retired newspaperman happened to phone me today; I asked him what newspaper job most closely resembled what Jody does. He said:
> The editor of "Letters-to-the-Editor." After doing his stint as a > copy boy the greenhorn would be moved to the "Letters" desk, where > he had to forget almost everything he learned from 'Miz Smith', > the English teacher. It was extremely important to create short, > succinct paragraphs, for two reasons: > 1. so the reader could focus on short segments of thought, and > 2. so that a composing-room operator could easily correct his > errors at the Linotype machine! > If the lad didn't go crazy and quit he usually became a > successful reporter and writer.
