Re: Switches and Safety
By Joyce Brite

All the recent discussion about switches and safety reminds me of a close call that I had earlier this summer.

About a month ago, my living room light would stay on even after I had turned the switch off. Several people told me that the problem was the switch. I had an electrician look at it; he disconnected the switch, andthe light _still_ stayed on. He then looked at the lightfixture itself and became concerned when he saw a puff of smoke come outof the ceiling. As it turned out, two wires had fused together causing the light to stay on. He said that I was very close to having a fire. I have now replaced the faulty light fixture and wiring with a new one. (I never liked the old fixture anyway).

When replacing switches in player pianos, it may be a good idea to also check and/or replace the rest of the wiring. It could prevent future disasters.

Thanks,
Joyce Brite
