Seeburg Electrical Hazard
By Douglas K. Rhodes

Greetings:

The recent postings regarding the potential safety hazards of neoprene, switches and motors have been sobering, to say the least, and are greatly appreciated.

I have been working on a Seeburg coin-op player that has a knife switch for the main power shut-off. It's turned on by the coin, and off by a pneumatic step-switch. The knife is, of course, electrically hot, and during normal operation is capable of momentarily contacting the metal platform on which the pneumatic works. It appears that there was never any provision for insulating it from the step-switch. Those of you who have looked into the innards of a Seeburg will probably know what I am talking about.

I don't like the look of it at all. Have any of you rebuilders managed an effective conversion or modification to this archaic and dangerous switch?

Cheers

Doug Rhodes
