An O-Roll Emulation
By George Bogatko
ALL:
Now that Craig has let the cat out of the bag, I suppose I should let people have a glimse of what I'm trying to do. So if you have the patience to load a 2.5 meg .WAV file, you can hear what the project will try to do.
The file is located at:
ftp://ftp.intac.com/pub/intac/users/gbogatko/oroll.wav
If you have a web browser, just type in that whole mess and the file should start to occupy a significant slice of your evening while it downloads. It's the whole tune. No sense being cheap about this. But you'll have to pay for the others. :-)
The grand plan is to bring out a CD of Holiday tunes by one of these upcoming holidays. It's probably too late for this season, so probably next season. It takes a while to do one of these, so 10-14 more will be a while. The recording will be of Craig Brougher's orchestion hooked up to a MIDI device. (The MIDI file that produced the .WAV file was made from audio samples of that machine.) As well as the CD, the tunes will also be cut into real punch-paper for those who own o-roll orchestrions.
Of course this all depends on banging together enough money to cut a CD. Making a tape of Craig's orchestrion is covered, but the rest of the cost of bring out a CD is not (so far) (about $3500 including booklet for the first 1000 copies). Given Playrite's gloomy predictions about the expected sales for "new stuff" it would probably take 2 or 3 years to get back the investment, perhaps never, so it really is a labor of love (and will undoubtedly involve a love of cornflakes for dinner).
But anyway, here's a sample of what the whole thing will sound like.
Hope you like it.
