Dear Jody!

[ Administrative conversation snipped... ]

I also have good news.

I'm at a holiday at a farm in the middle of Norway, together with my girlfriend Elisabeth, by some friends. The place's called "Tolga" (No, it isn't "Volga", and it isn't in Russia! :-) )

Earlier this week, we visited the famous little town "R=F8ros" (Roeros) where the the the world's most northly desert lies. It is only a square kilometre or so, and is a result of removing the three.

And now, the miracle, in a little Cafeteria, which we visited, I found this Pianola Duo-Art upright, still in working condition, with lots of QRS rolls and also some Duo-Art rolls.

The owner, to whom I have ordered membership to this list, was present, and he showed me the piano.

He told that only three such pianos were existing in Scandinavia, one at the Technical museum in K=F8benhavn, one in the norwegian town Trondheim which was under restoration, and this one. I don't remember the name plate on the piano, but it was something unknown, but the player mechanism looked familiar; Aeolian Duo-Art.

It was untuned, but had kept the tuning fairly for who knows how many years, it was playing loudly when the motor was shut on, (the Duo-Art mechanism working a bit improperly), but I showed the owner that the piano got Pianola Pedals too, to his great satisfaction. They used the piano every day in the cafeteria, and thought it played too loud. They have had concerts with local musicians, and one time with the piano too. Then they advertised the concert on a poster, with this or that musician on sax, this or that musician on guitar, and on piano: NO ONE!

The piano was originally a gift to the exeptional nice little music cafe from a collector another place in Norway My opinion was that it maybe have to have been restored at least partially as the rubber tubes were replaced with new one.

I gave him a quick lecture how, and how NOT to restore the piano, and told him about this list. I have no worries, as he is a local known, what is the right name, artist, working with many different materials making his art, which is exposed in that exeptional little cafe. If some of You are going to holiday in Norway some time, and are passing through "R=F8ros" (Roeros), please visit "Galleri Thomasgaarden", (Yes, Galleri means "Gallery"!) which is in the main street of R=F8ros. You may ask for "Torgeir Leander Henriksen", who's the owner of the piano, and he'll show You.

Just in case some of You should come to Norway!

Sincerely Thomas Henden
