Introduction and Greetings
By Bill Finch
Hello to all. I can never resist a good thing, so when the MBSI Bulletin published the address of this newsletter I had to sign on. I'm sure that Mary and I've met many of you local and national events, or possibly while digging through scrap piles or what have you. A bit of background ... When Mary and I were in high school we would date by parking just outside Playland Park in San Antonio next to the Parker Caroussel with it's Wurlitzer 146 Band Organ cranking away. I loved the sound so much that I took a summer job "guessing" weight ... located about 10 feet from the band organ. That was over 40 years (and three children) ago. After we married we built several organs (much much work) and restored several. Our current project is a double tracker Wurlitzer 145B ... one of the last made ... with an interesting history. We are doing cosmetics and minor mechanical repair. I have about 130 rolls for the organ but that's not really enough. What I would really like to do is MIDI-fy the organ by inserting MIDI controlled leaks in the tracker piping. I have all the computers, synthesizers and software for composition and just want to be able to hear marches and the like in the Wurlitzer style that are simply not available form any of my sources. We'll see how this project goes and I'll be asking questions as they come up. Bye for now ... Bill Finch.
