Playrite/FAQ/Staffnote/Milwaukee
By Rob DeLand

I have a couple of inputs to keep this thread going. First, to respond to Paul Johnson's comments, in my opinion this is quickly becoming the first entry into our AMI FAQ (frequently-asked questions for you newbies) list which of course is a new topic! What I'm trying to say is we should keep a list of answers to FAQ's, and this list of roll suppliers is obviously just that! I'm sure Paul is an excellent choice as the keeper of this FAQ, so I second the motion [that means I don't have to do any work, right? ;-) ]. A more important question is for Jody: do you have an opinion on how and where we should keep a list of FAQ's? Is this something that could be FTP'd or should we make it available on a web page somewhere? Have any other FAQ topics been assembled to date? Maybe we can make some assignments for others as well (I'd better be careful or I *WILL* end up with some work!).

As far as the Staffnote Corporation of Milwaukee is concerned, I don't have all the facts in front of me but I believe the following is true: 1) Playrite as issued by Staffnote is in no way connected to the PlayRite in California. The names are only a coincidence. Staffnote issued some fine rolls, especially those played by Armand Muth. I always try to pick them up when I find them.

2) Staffnote perforating equipment survived the years (somebody told me this recently, and I can't remember who; maybe Durrell Armstrong?). I think it may have been the basis for the rolls issued by Aeolian in Oregon, Illinois in the 1960's but again that should be researched. Another project for my spare time...

Anyway, thanks for volunteering, Paul! I know it's in good hands, with your mind for details.

Cheers, Rob DeLand (deland_robert@macmail1.csg.mot.com)
