Introduction
By John Wale
Hello Everyone !
My name's John Wale and I live in Coventry in the Midlands of England. I've been interested in mechanical music for as long as I remember - my parents tell me I danced to the music of a fairground organ at a steam rally when I was about 2 years old !
My interests are mechanical organs, player pianos and computer music. I have recently completed a 25 note organ which originally played from cardboard book music, but is now driven from an electric action controlled by a home computer.
Last year I bought a Brinsmead player piano, which I have been rebuilding and is now just about in playing condition (but with a few things left to sort out).
In addition to mechanical music I also write and record electronic music on a synthesiser setup at my home, which has involved learning most of the MIDI protocol and writing real-time software for musical applications.
I am a member of the Fair Organ Preservation Society and the Player Piano Group in the UK.
I'd love to own a 'real' mechanical organ (Gavioli, Marenghi, Decap etc), but unless my fortunes take a sudden turn for the better (has anyone got one of these organs in need of restoration ?) I'll continue with building my own.
Any comments to essfc@csv.warwick.ac.uk would be most welcome.
Bye for now,
John.
