Kangaroo Leather

To all those interested in leathers,
In reply to those who wrote to me and whoever else may be interested (of which I think there may be quite a few).
The Kangaroo Pouch leather in question, of which everyone seems to be having trouble in locating. Is in fact due to the problem of the manufactures here in Australia.
I Spoke to Rick Alabaster tonight who is the man responsible for this wonderful leather. He is the only distributor for it that I know of, and he is the one who is supplying the Player Piano Company.
He tells me that pouch leather is the only product in his line that is unavailable at the moment. He does have some in stock but it isn't ready for sale yet, due to machining difficulties.
He is quite fussy about the product he sells and likes to see it go out as a top product as some of you have already found out.
This problem with supply started because of a project on a very large organ here in Australia when they bought out most of Rick's stock for the job. Then his leather supplier quite out on him. Then there's the job of finding someone else who is willing to supply him with a small quantity of good quality skins. In Rick's words "it ain't easy". We've also just had 4 years of drought so the skins aren't really up to scratch, so the problem goes on.
He did say that he is confident that he will have it available again soon. For those of us here in Australia, probably about the second half of July. Our US counterparts will probably be waiting a little longer, say about three months from now.
Rick will be overseas for a few weeks so this will halt things a bit too. For those of you who are going to the AMICA convention next month Rick has told me to tell you folk that he will be running a Technical Workshop there on all aspects of leather. So if you have any further questions here will be your chance!!! (grill him if you like, or tell him a good joke!).
