The Great Double Space Quandary

Well, you may be able to resist putting extra spaces in Marc's comments, but as a former graphic artist I can't resist seconding Marc's recommendations. Double spaces after periods is left over from typewriters. Typesetters never used two. Just one. It looks better. You needn't publish this to the whole list, as I doubt all those interested in mechanical instruments care much about typography. I appreciate your editing, but I wouldn't spend too much time correcting errors. After all, it tells us something about the writer, and there's a certain integrity in preserving the actual way it was sent [minus the superfluous requoted text, of course]. And I agree it would be helpful for writers to provide pertinent subject lines.
Best, Keith
[ I appreciate the feedback. I'm going to share this with the group for [ the sake of balance -- I've printed _all_ the replies supporting two [ spaces. Jody
