Ron O'Dell's new MIDI song site
By Ron Yost
Hello all! (Here's some new music, Beatrice!)
As the Official Notifier of New and Interesting MIDI Song-Sites for the Digest <grin>, here's another new one with both original compositions and versions of old songs:
http://www.armory.com/~keeper/midi.html
The site is run by Ron O'Dell (keeper@armory.com), who's been making arrangements of ragtime for MIDI piano since about 1988, and is in the process of converting his music into MIDI form from some proprietary format (?) and putting it all up on his web page.
I find the selections from Scott Joplin's opera "Treemonisha" especially interesting, though I'm not familiar enough with this work to know if Ron's interpretations are 'good', so I won't attempt a review. I remember reading in the Digest sometime back of George Bogatko and Terry Smythe asking about a piano roll of Treemonisha selections, so perhaps they or someone else would like to check these out and give us a review?
In any event, here's what's available currently (this will change as Ron adds or deletes songs):
(There's a full explanation of the songs on the web page. Most of them are individual songs contained in two .zip files. The filenames are *not* listed on the page; I include them here for your convenience. Most are one - or two - track piano songs.)
