For Sale: Steinway Duo Art
By Erik Siverson

Steinway Duo Art

I have a Steinway Duo Art Grand for sale. It is in dark Mahogany, style XU, Serial #208,604. The player action was rebuilt in the 80's and the instrument expresses very well as a player, and plays very well as an acoustic piano

What is unusual about this piano is that the hammers, shanks, and all action parts; as well as the strings, soundboard, and pinblock are all original and in remarkably good condition. I purchased the piano from the estate of the original owner. It saw very little use because she could not play herself, and used it as a player for only a short time after it was rebuilt. Also the climate in Hollister, Cal. where it was located has relatively low humidity so the pinblock and soundboard are without cracks. It is currently tuned at concert pitch, with not a single broken string. The original bass strings are not dead, but lively and robust.

The piano was purchased from the local Steinway dealer (Sherman & Clay) in 1923. The ivory is nearly perfect. The tone, like most of the Steinways of the period, is wonderful! The original finish however, is age-darkened and heavily but evenly "alligatored".

The price is $14,500 or best reasonable offer. At full price I will include 150 rolls both DuoArt and 88 note in a custom-made turning library-style cabinet.
