About 15 years ago, Tom Olds in Grand Rapids, MN did some research with a relative who was working with 3M in Minneapolis at the time. It seems that 3M was trying to develop a "removable" tape, and at that time came up with something called "Removable Transparent Tape No. 281". At that time I bought 3 rolls of it, and still have about 1/3 of the last roll left. I too am interested in finding a replacement.
That particular tape came then in only 3/4" width, length unknown (no label on experimental products), milky in appearance (same as current Magic Mending Tape), seems slightly thinner, has much less static electricity to "grab" the paper, and is indeed removable, even 15 years later, and leaves no damage to the paper.
Perhaps our AMD members living in the Minneapolis area might make some inquiries of 3M and see if that product ever got into production, if not, is there any left over, have they developed an alternative, etc......
Some years ago, Ginny and Bob Billings in Belmont, CA., were doing some research into removable tape. I do not know of the results of their work, but perhaps Bob could be persuaded to join this group. As an electronics engineer, I would expect he likely has an email address. Is there someone nearby them who could call (415-593-4792) and express that invitation?
Regards,
Terry fully expect he has email capability
