Carillon Bells Roll Reader
By Pete Woodworth
Greetings folks.
I just obtained the paper roll reader, rolls and keyboard for a set of old Schulmerich "Carillonic Bells". The actual electromechanical bells are still in use, but will be replaced in the future. =)
Briefly: Continuous-loop paper rolls, 9-3/4" width. 30 holes, spaced 5/16" apart. Capstan drive. 6 or 7 'songs' on a roll.
I have slapped together a 'web page with pictures and descriptions (so far). For interested folks who don't yet have 'web access, please email me directly.
The page is at: http://members.aol.com/ragtime4u/bells.html
Cheers! -Pete
Note to Ron Yost: Ron, do you have photos of your Band Organ? I'm still interested in visiting! -pw

[ Editor's Note: [ Pete, I've looked at the pictures in the Web Page listed above. [ Very interesting. Thanks for taking the trouble to scan them [ in and upload them. I hope that subscribers to this list that [ are not yet using a service provider that allows "Web" access will [ consider upgrading. A number of our subscribers have expressed a desire [ to be able to submit drawings to the group. In the long run, using [ a Web Browser is much easier than any other mechanism we have. You [ can directly, and automatically, retrieve any Binary file and display [ it automatically. Pictures come out on your screen, and MIDI files [ get sent to your MIDI card or sound card (and/or get saved for a [ sequencer program). [ [ Although Foxtail does not yet have a Web server running, I am always [ willing to post MIDI and graphics files which are not copyright [ infringements. I'd be interested to know if those of you with [ Web Browsers can display the Graphics files from John Grant's [ solenoid valve subscription project: [ [ ftp://ftp.foxtail.com/pub/automatic-music/misc/valvesub/valveskt.bmp [ ftp://ftp.foxtail.com/pub/automatic-music/misc/valvesub/valvepic.bmp [ [ These are in a format which is common on the PC but I don't know [ if its one supported directly by the common Web Browsers. Comments [ welcomed! [ [ Jody |
