Re: Bits and pieces from the UK
By Brian Chesters

Hi there all Automusicians,

A collector has just bought a Recordo player. He has asked me to have a look at it. These things are rare in the UK but common in the USA (so I understand) Could anyone give me some info on what I should find? I wont be doing any work on it, but I don't want to appear more of an imbecile than I already do.

A guy has asked me if I would like to make him a 'bid' on twenty Welte Orchestrian rolls which he says are for a No.3 orchestrian. Does any one know anybody who has one? or would want to buy them.

I have just received my catalog for Sothebys London sale with sixty seven lots of mechanical music. The highlights are a style 130 Symph. 21" with 10 bells. (I have a 15" table version with 10 bells) There is a whole load of table disc boxes including 17" Kalliope, two 17" Stellas (one with 37 teeth off) Small boxes by Mira, Celesta, Monopol, Orphenion and Helvetia. There are two of the UGLY EMG hand made horn gramophones, (made in England) There

is a nice Bruguir singing bird box c1840, estimate =A34-6000. and two others. In the same sale there are 326 lots of clocks and watches and 200 lots of scientific instruments. I will attend this sale.

I have enjoyed the continuing correspondence on the subject of Gulbransons, There are only a few in the UK and I have never played on one so I cant comment.

If any can help, I am looking for the following items for my collection, Cabinetto organette rolls, Rollmonica and play-a-sax plus rolls and the mechanism for a 15" table Polyphon (I have the empty case)

All the best from England.

Brian Chesters
