Roll Repairs and Thanks!
By Craig Smith
Hi, It's me again.
A friend of mind went to a lot of trouble a few years ago to contact 3M and find out the very best tape to use to repair rolls. The verdict was good old Scotch Magic Mending Tape #810. Adhesive and substrate both claim to be long life. I've used it on a number of rolls and it seems to hold up fine. I've also found that other brands that LOOK like SMMT don't usually work as well. Some have gotten sticky or delaminated. Just be careful not to cause a layered buildup when the paper is wound up on the roll - like a couple of feet straight up along the edge. Put some on the other edge to even things up. I've done a 15 foot run up the edge of a roll I really liked (or got for a song) with no problem. Fill large spaces with roll paper or at least detack the glue with talc. Line it up carefully and press it down good!.

BTW - There is another version (#811, I think) that is almost the same but is LOW TACK. You can put it on and pull it off just like Post-it notes. Very handy stuff !!!!!!
JODY - You're doing a wonderful service for us all !!!! Thanks. The format is great. We have a similar (although automatic) method of distribution (which we call DL's) on our proprietary system here at Xerox and it has worked efficiently and conveniently for many (14-15?) years.
[ As the volume of traffic increases, I think every day about [ installing MajorDomo here and letting everything happen automatically. [ However, I'm concerned about inadequate titles, spelling errors, and [ formatting errors. Some of the postings that come in here have [ very good "content" but would get a "C-" for editing care by the [ senders. Depending on the volume, I may eventually have to [ switch over to automation, but I'm not ready to yet. [ Jody |
