Re: Ampico Utilizing Melville Clark Spring Drive
By Marc Sachnoff

Randy Hayno asks regarding an Ampico utilizing the Melville Clark spring motor roll drive mechanism. I've never seen an Ampico equipped with this system, but I do own ( with a friend) an Apollo-phone piano that encorporate the spring wind system with a separate, built in victrola-type spring wound phonograph. I've been told that rolls and corresponding records were produced to create the effect of a vocalist accompanied by a "live" piano, but I've never come across either records or piano rolls labeled for this purpose. Has anyone on the digest ever seen or heard of this now quaint concept?

Happy holidays to all from sunny SoCal.
