Re: Mozart Roll: Rondo alla Turca
By Jim Canavan

Jody:

Glad to hear that the Mozart Rondo is also a favorite of yours. I've never heard the George Wright version (Crazy Rondo)...is it available on CD?

[ Editor's Note: The last time I checked, George Wright Encores" had
[ not been re-issued on CD. It was originally issued on the HiFiRecord
[ label No. R-702. As far as I know, it was only issued in Mono. The
[ back cover refers to the "state of the are equipment", including an
[ Ampex 350 tape recorder, a "4 channel mixer" and 3 Altec M11 microphone
[ systems with 21-C condenser microphones. The whole thing recorded
[ on 111-A Scotch mag tape. Does anyone here if this setup might have
[ been 2 (or more) tracks onto that tape ? Frankly, I'd cheerfully buy
[ a CD transcription of the tape even if it was mono. Its a great recording.

One of my favorite renditions can be heard (and seen) in the 1939 movie classic "Wuthering Heights"...during a party scene, a woman sits down at the harpsicord and plays an incredibly FAST version of it. Unfortunately, they usually cut this scene out on TV, but it's available on video.

I'll let you know if I come across any info on the existance of a roll of the Rondo...my dream is to find a Themodist/Metrostyle version of it...even tho' my piano can't read the "snakebites", I've found that these rolls are some of the best arrangements, whether classical or popular.
