Pianocorder Servicing
By John Grant
Is there a Pianocorder service guru on this list? I recently received a phone call from a gentleman in my area who has one and needs service. Although I attended the installation seminar for Pianocorders many years ago, opportunities for servicing have never been plentiful in this area, and my experience with them has been correspondingly infrequent. In fact, I'm not sure exactly where to put my hands on what little technical literature I had. He says the unit had been playing OK, but that while a tape was actively playing, his wife shut the system off. I assume he means she cut off the main power switch. He says that since then he only gets intermittent notes playing (I have not yet made the service call to hear it for myself.) I vaguely remember something about a setting for the "3/4 bit" that if incorrect, could cause such a symptom. Or is this possibly related to the tape tracking? If these are a possibilities, where are the adjustments for these settings and how should they be approached? Is the alignment tape necessary to make these adjustments? If anyone reading this list can guide me through this I would greatly [appreciate] it. -John Grant
