Vestal Press Information
By Bob Conant
I noted that Seth W. was interested in contacting the Vestal Press. The address and phone numbers that Jody provided are indeed current as I spoke with Harvey Roehl this morning and confirmed it. They are repeated here for convenience.

As many of you know, Harvey Roehl (pronounced rail) is the founder and longtime owner of the Vestal Press. In the early days, they published books like "Put Another Nickel In", "Reproducing the Artist", and "Rebuilding The Player Piano" as well as reprinting many early advertisements and service publications for player pianos and other automatic musical instruments. They no longer handle the reprints as these have all been sold (masters and all existing stock) to Player Piano Company, Wichita, KS. They also do not generally handle books published by other companies anymore. They do still publish some of the premier books on automatic musical instruments including Dave Bowers' "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments" and Art Reblitz' "Rebuilding the Piano" and "Rebuilding the Player Piano". They have a 1995 catalog available which they will send if you call or write them.
Harvey is now semi-retired and most of the company operations are handled by Vito Mannina and Elaine Stewart.
Harvey and Marion Roehl do however actively run a business called Marion Roehl Recordings. These are cassette tapes and CD's recorded exclusively from their personal collection of musical instruments. The exception is two tapes that have been reproduced that were originally recorded in the 40's and 50's at the Allen Herschell Carousel Works in North Tonawanda, NY, of a Wurlitzer of undetermined size (probably a 153 ?). The subjects of MRR tapes include player pianos, music boxes, photoplayers, calliopes and band organs. These tapes and CD's are excellent. MRR can be reached at:
Marion Roehl Recordings 3533 Stratford Drive Vestal, NY 13850-2222 USA Phone: (607) 797-9062 fax: (607) 797-2624
All automatic musical instrument lovers should be aware of both of these fine companies. I hope this has been of some help.
