Music Box Auction Report
By Bill Burns

Here's a brief report on the William H. Bunch auction on 25 October in Concordville, PA.

This guy is SLOW! He talks fast, but sells slow. It took him 4 hours to sell 300 non-musical lots, then another THREE hours to sell 80 lots of clocks and music boxes (he played every music box before selling it!). Al Meekins was helping with the demonstrations, and most of the East Coast dealers were present.

The auction started at 4pm and finished after 11pm - I had a 2.5 hour drive home after that.

I'll pick out the highlights of the music boxes (plus a couple of phonographs). All prices include 10% buyer's premium, and there are NO misplaced decimal points!

10" Monopol disc box, as is, no discs. $495

Dutch musical tall case clock, 12 tunes. $10450

11" Polyphon double comb disc box, 10 discs. $5225

Capital size A cuff music box, 6 cuffs. $2750

20.5" Regina upright 12-disc changer, mahogany. $22000

13.5" Symphonion double comb disc box, coin-op, unrestored. $2200

15.5" Reginaphone double comb floor standing disc box with phonograph attachment, plain mahogany case. $7700

Victor Victrola IX phonograph. $550

Edison C-19 phonograph. $770

12 Edison cylinders. $66

58 Edison double sided thick records. $495

Victor V phonograph with (repro) large witch's hat horn. $2030

North Tonawanda Musical Instrument Works band organ, made c. 1917 with 9 25-minute music rolls. $13750

Lomonaire Freres French band organ, made c. 1914 with 54 books of music and tall storage cabinet. $26400

Some interesting boxes, mostly with decent sound, but prices were above average retail. I did NOT buy anything!
