Administrivia: Mail Transmission Failures
By Jody Kravitz
Editor's Note:
The following message from Larry Smith somehow got hung in the net. It was eventually sent back to him, without a copy ever arriving here. The pice of mail which he got back from the mail system had a bunch of messages which appeared incomprehensible, but in fact were quite interesting to me as a system administrator.
If you send a message to the digest and it does not appear promptly (usually in the very next digest) please either resend the message with a note that it is a retransmission, or send a message to
rollreq@foxtail.com
mentioning that your submission did not get published. I publish almost all submissions, so if something doesn't appear, its probably a technical problem.
Also, if you get back any kind of error message, its is useful for me to see the entire error message. Most mail systems allow a such a message to be forwarded. Once again the preferred address for such messages is the one I listed above.
The other thing I wanted to mention is that a few of the mail systems in use by our users appear to be intermittently unreliable. This is why I put the "previous digest name" in each digest header. It is sometimes difficult to determine who's mail has "bounced" from the error messages I get here, so if you think you are missing something, please drop a note to the address above and I'll either resend what you think you missed, or if you are not sure I'll send you the recent index.
Thanks to all of you for participating!
Jody
