Regina 34 question - an answer
By Craig Smith
Hi, On the back of the changer mechanism there is a small, cylindrical piece that transfers control from the disk raising mechanism to the playing mechanism. I suspect that it is sticking sometimes, thus allowing the changer to continue to cycle and exchange for the next disk. If you want to check this, AND YOU SHOULD BE V E R Y C A R E F U L, open the back of the machine and look at the area between and behind the two springmotors. This little part (about 2-3 inches long) will toggle/slide up and down along a bar as the machine goes from change to play and back. It could also be that the latch is missing once in a while. Now, Denny, I'd be VERY careful about trying to fix this yourself if you haven't done any music box restoration before. If you move the wrong lever or loosen the wrong screw it could easily grind up some of the gear$. It is also VERY possible that it will eat off a couple of your fingers and make some extremely loud noises in the process. Those springs and the attached mechanism can be VERY DANGEROUS. I almost lost a couple of toes when this machine dropped a disk from the play position unexpectedly and it cut 1/2 ich into the bottom of the case. If you message me back, I will be happy to put you in touch with someone near you who can help if you feel you need it or do the job for you. Regards, Craig |
