Introduction
By Howard Wyman
I would like to introduce myself. Although I joined the list a month or so ago, I am just now getting around to this.
My name is Howard Wyman and I live in Valrico Florida, near Tampa. I am a member of both AMICA and MBSI. I learned about this list when I attended the AMICA convention in London this past August.
My primary interest is in pneumatic instruments, however I like all types of mechanical musical instruments. As a child I was always fascinated by player pianos, but unfortunately my family never owned one. I finally bought a non-playing Gulbransen in 1989 and rebuilt it. That was all it took and now I am hooked. I didn't know at the time that a Gulbransen is one of the more difficult because of its glued-up stack. Since then I have rebuilt two more upright players, An Aeolian 46-note player reed organ, and just recently a Mason & Hamlin Ampico.
I do own one music box - a Symphonion 11 7/8" disk box. Unfortunately, two teeth dropped off one of the combs and I am preparing to ship the combs to Robin Biggins for repair. It occurred to me that I am not sure how much to insure the package for. If anyone can give me an idea, I would certainly appreciate it.
I am glad to see that a list like this exists, and it appears to be growing rapidly.
Best wishes,
Howard Wyman hwyman@netcom.com
