Claude Bolling's Suite for Flute and Piano QRS #860023
This accompanied CD works well since the audio track is only asked to carry the flute, bass and drums. No attempt to play back an orchestra. With two decent speakers playing back the same mono track, the effect is very much that of a small combo playing with the piano. The music itself (which was totally new to me) is very well done, having a nice classical and easy jazz feel to it. The coordination between the flute and the piano is excellent with an very captivating back-and-forth trade off of the musical parts. You really get the feeling of two highly skilled musicians playing a very well rehearsed and intricate piece together with captivating melodies and rhythmic patterns. This is not just a piano CD with some simple instrumental accompaniment. Highly recommended!
Latin American Super Hits QRS CD #801209
This 18 selection, piano solo disc feature Marcos Lizama as the pianist. All of the selections on the disc are very listenable, and the quality of the playing that comes through is very good. A few cuts did leave me wondering if the sustain pedaling I heard was what the pianist intended, but overall the disc has a very good "live feel" to it. This discs earns a strong recommendation to add it to your library, if you at all enjoy Latin rhythms and melodies.
