Roll perforators in July/Aug AMICA bulletin
By Rob DeLand
I want to make sure everyone is aware of the fantastic wealth of perforator information that has been published in the latest AMICA bulletin. Robin Pratt deserves MAJOR kudos for seeing that this fascinating information made it to print. Nowhere is there more detailed information available on music roll perforators! The recollections of Don Rand alone are worth the price of admission - he always tells the best stories anyway, and here he gives us his unique perspective on a number of the perforators that are currently in use by himself and others around the world.
Also published are many photos of Don's perforators, including the high-speed RECORDING perforator he owns, which is the only known surviving real-time recording perforator (as opposed to QRS's equally fascinating Melville Clark marking piano).
Finally, Robin included 36+ pages of patent drawings, J. Lawrence Cook hand-written correspondence, and vintage roll company letters, brochures, etc. Well done, Robin! Thank you very much!
