Introduction / Ampico Rebuilding continued
By Bruce Clark

[
[ Well, it looks like Bruce got back online. Bruce is in a rural
[ area across a lake from Cornell University. I think he considers
[ himself lucky that his phone works at all, much less supports
[ modem calls. Until the 70's he was on a Magneto (hand-crank) system
[ with 23 parties on his circuit!

Hi Jody, thanks for the note. I guess that my system (Fidonet) had some serious disk problems, and hundreds of messages both in and out were lost forever! There was a back up of so much from foxtail, that it took me over an hour to read them and my time ran out! I think now I am on top of that, and can handle your automatic mailing.

I am assisting a friend of mine rebuild a beautiful Knabe Upright Ampico. As you know the unit valves can be a royal pain to de-laminate, for installing new pouches. Someone suggested that we place a unit valve in the MICROWAVE for about a minute, and the old glue would heat up and it could be taken apart successfully. Well, IT WORKED!!!!! Just be sure that the Valve has all metal parts removed, before you try this, and also place a cup of water off in the corner away from the valve block, to absorb some excess micro waves. I would like to pass on this useful hint to those who face this maddening problem. All for now, Bruce Clark
