As always, I appreciate the positive feedback. I have some misgivings as to whether we should do this as a newsgroup. There are definitely some in our group who do not have access to Usenet Newsgroups, either because they have not learned how, or because their employers or e-mail service providers don't offer access. On the other hand, a newsgroup would make us much more visible and might eventually bring more people into "the hobby".
Although my having to edit the digests (and maintain the mailing list) is a lot of work, I'd probably want to continue to moderate it even if this list were gateway'd to Usenet. One of the failings of Usenet is that it has become _extremely noisy_. I hope that I am never accused of blocking (or biasing) relevant discussion. However we've had a _VERY LOW_ unsubscribe rate and I think that is, in part, to our staying "on the topic".
I suppose that things are going well enough that I ought to write up the mailing list and submit it to the caretaker of the "Internet list of mailing lists".
For now I will decline the offer to start this as a newsgroup. I'll entertain private discussion:
rollreq@foxtail.com
or public discussion:
rolls@foxtail.com
if people are interested in keeping this tread going. As always please feel free to mention this mailing list to people who have posted something "related" to the Net, or you can forward relevant postings in other Newsgroups to rollreq@foxtail.com and I'll send them an invitation.
