Introduction
By Marc Sachnoff
I'm new on this BBS and want to introduce myself. I've been interested in automatic musical instruments since I got my first player piano at age 13. Since then I've collected piano rolls and various music machines. I taught myself to play the piano from piano rolls and although without the stellar success of George Gershwin ( whose early teacher was also the player) I've enjoyed playing the piano with various traditional jazz bands around the country and the world with a specialty in stride and boogie woogie.
Today I've given up the performing circuit to create television shows. I've recently begun collecting piano rolls again. I've provided rolls from my collection to Wayne Stahnke and others for recutting or digitizing.
I'm actively looking for a quality reproducing piano and am evaluating the Disclavier and Pianodisc systems. Due to lack of space and funds I've realized it may not be imminently possible for me to own an Ampico, Duo-Art and Welte piano so I've become interested in digital encoding of player rolls with the hope finding a way to play all these rolls through a digital reproducing piano.
I've been corresponding over the last year or two with Larry Givens and have learned a lot from this early expert in the field.
I welcome mail from anyone interested in player rolls, reproducers, digital and MIDI readers and disk encoders, nickelodeons, etc.
regards,
--Marc
