Introduction of Janos Macsai and Request for Bartok Rolls
By Janos Macsai, forwarded by Zoltán Jánosy
I'm forwarding this introduction of Janos to the list because he is unexperienced in mailing lists ;-).
---------------------------------
I am a researcher and music instrument restorator at the Institute of Musicology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary. There is a Museum of Musical Instruments here as well, which owns about 2000 piano rolls, mostly of the Red Welte Mignon type. Together with my colleague Zoltan Janosy we are working on a computer program to convert piano rolls into MIDI format. We made some audio recordings using a Disklavier as well. If anyone interested I am ready to talk about our work more.
Now my request. I would like to get in touch with collectors who know about, or own the following Welte Licensee rolls containing recordings of Bela Bartok: Nr. 7768, 7791, 7785, 7767. Sound recordings made from these rolls appeared on the "Welte Legacy of Piano Treasures Album No.676 c.1964" album, but we don't know about the location of the rolls. Your help in finding these recordings would be very much appreciated, because of their special importance in the research of Bartok's work.
Thank you for you help.
