Good evening. I have a disc music box clock that plays a musical
disc in place of the usual clock chime. When I purchased the clock,
at first I thought the disc was a Thorens, because of the gear teeth
on the circumference of the disc, but when I tried to install a 4-1/2"
Thorens disc it was too small.
I measured the disc that came with the clock and it measured about
4-7/8" [12.38 cm]. I have searched and searched and I am unable to
find any discs in this size as I would like to have a variety of songs
to play in my clock. Do you know the make of this size disc and/or
anyone who supplies this size disc for my clock?
I wrote to Mr. Jack Perron of HensTooth Discs (who referred me to you)
who said that the disc in my clock may have been made by "Arion", who
made 12.5 cm (4.9") discs. Mr. Perron went on to quote page 268 of
Kevin McElhone's book, "The Disc Musical Box," which said that "Arion"
made this size disc for "clockworks".
I have provided several pictures of my clock and the disc. Can you
confirm or add anything to what Mr. Perron has told me? Can you tell
me anything about my clock, who manufactured it, when it was made and
what its' value might be? There are no manufacturers markings on the
case, the clockworks or the music box comb portion of the music box.
Please feel free to use these questions in anyway you choose.
Thank you.
